10 Tips to get a Fantasy Art Gig #4

Hello hello everyone. I must confess I am up to my eyeballs (and I’m really tall mind you) with things I have to do for the upcoming Heroes con. That being said the tip for this week will be short and sweet.

Tip #4 Do a piece for a charity auction

Yeah yeah I know you are probably thinking how on earth can this help me land a freelance gig? The answer is quite simple actually, exposure. For example I had recently done a piece for a charity card auction that has ended up leading to two people contacting me for work.

I had seen the ad on a craigslist and decided to send my stuff in just to see what would happen. I was accepted to be a part of the project, turned in my donation piece and over the course of the next 3 weeks I received two commission requests and a fan mail. Overall a pretty cool experience and yet another reason why you should consider doing a couple free gigs just so you can start getting you name out there.

Join me next time as I will have something clever to say (hopefully) along with the final 3 tips of top ten ways to lands a freelance art gig.

  • Craigslist Proxy

I do not post much, but this was an interesting post. Craigslist never ceases to amaze me. I read a post on some site about a guy who wanted to buy a car for his gf, and he came across an ad with Hitler hidden text… Very odd. Craigslist never fails to deliver on the strange goods.
